practical DIY aux input mod 2006 ranger OEM radio (no cd)
This mod is a diy aux input line for the 06 ranger OEM radio, with fully functional volume and EQ control. The radio behaves normal with the aux cable installed, but when connected to a source it completely takes over and the radio signal is muted. Inside you'll see the main circuit board has a separate vertically-mounted circuit for the RF radio stuff, this is our entry point.
The radio circuit's audio path is labeled 'L and R' in the bottom right corner (pins 5 and 6 from the right), this is where you want to solder the aux lines (stereo) and there are several ground points nearby for the aux ground line(s). You can use any stereo aux line/jack for this (if ur using iPhone i recommend splicing those included apple headphones' ear buds off and using that cable (for the proprietary plug bs).. but i'm using an old ipod so i went with a 3.5mm TRS cable.
Also drilled a hole in the back to feed the cable through. Anyways this has probably been done before but i couldn't find a guide for the ranger with this 'diy pirate approach' so i just wanted to throw it out there. Works perfect.
